No Reservations

This morning I was thinking about Anthony Bourdain’s show “No Reservations” and how perfectly named it is with its double meaning. If you haven’t seen the show I highly recommend you catch up on the episodes. Anthony Bourdain is a perfectly snarky, inquisitive, brave and daring chef who travels around the world eating and learning about the food of different cultures. Whether he’s eating an eyeball or pizza there’s always an element of surprise and even sometimes danger. It’s fascinating and inspiring. And he’s funny… like really, really funny.

But back to the name: No Reservations. Obviously the first meaning being the obvious in not having to make reservations to eat in these places but a second meaning that means much more to me lately. Having no reservations (doubts) about what he is doing. He forges ahead into the unknown no matter the consequences (his poor stomach)!

I could use with a little more of that brave, daring go-get-’em attitude. I’m delving head first into all of these things that I’m incredibly passionate about and at the same time I’m so afraid to mess it up. I’m the first person to encourage people to chase their dreams and seem like the last one in line to chase my own.

That said I’m a believer that if you do what you’re meant to do it will work in your favor and I feel like I’m really meant to be writing and taking pictures. I want to tell people’s stories and share the world with everyone. So I’m starting small and hoping it goes somewhere and honestly even that first small baby step scares the ever loving crap out of me.

What dreams are you chasing today?

Photo Walks

I’ve missed you!

The last week has been a whirlwind and the weekend wasn’t any more relaxing (but it was great)! I took the camera out for its very first spin and boy do we have a lot to get to know about each other!

The camera: GE X5 with 15x wide optical zoom. For a little bridge camera this baby has a lot to offer – now I just have to figure out how to use it all. (And it looks like a tripod may be in my purchasing future pretty soon too.)

It’s amazing to be behind the lens again. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I started taking those shots – it’s second nature for me. I feel so alive when I’m behind the camera capturing moments to add to the scrapbook of life. (Insert corny sigh.)

I love it so much that I’ve decided to start my own Photography business. Finally. I’m chasing that dream and who knows where it’s going to take me!

I will tell you, however, where my weekend took me…

On Saturday I went for a photo walk in a lovely but sad town called Kannapolis (Cannon Village, more specifically) here in North Carolina. The history of the town is both hopeful and heart-wrenching.

What’s in Your Fridge?

March 4, 2011 § 1 Comment

Taking a queue from the commercials for Capitol One “What’s in your Wallet?” I decided to give you a glance into my fridge. It’s messy, it’s unorganized and it doesn’t make much sense unless you know what’s in my cupboards. However I’m giving you a peek so that you can help ME figure out what to make for dinner!

Top shelf (in order of appearance): ROSE’ Sauce, Arnold Palmer’s, tomato, applesauce, pears.

Drawer: Italian blend shredded cheese, butter, Parmesan, sliced Turkey.

Shelf: Cream Cheese, Ricotta cheese, cranberry sauce (yum!), tonic water, simply orange juice, sprinkle cheese, 1/2 a jar of puttanesca sauce, cranberry juice.

Shelf: More tomato sauce!, yogurt, margarine (NPC likes it – not me!), sour cream, lemons, greek yogurt, limes.

Drawer #1: Beer

Drawer #2: Various veggies: Carrots, spinach, 1/2 an onion, peppers.

I’ve got a pretty stocked pantry and the grocery store is down the street. I need to get rid of some of this stuff! Inspire me!

8 Days a Week

All morning I’ve been singing the song “That Thing You Do” by The Wonders. I woke up with a song stuck in my head and I can honestly say it’s the first time I woke up humming something and had no idea why. It’s a good song, though.

This week has been pretty nuts. Monday – Wednesday were busy, busy, busy at work. Even though it seems like the work is starting to even out a bit my “department” of the shop has been a bit hectic. Regardless I’m looking forward to then numbers coming down and being able to take a breather.

Tuesday we sold my car, which was pretty huge. It was relatively old (97) and on it’s way out. We couldn’t justify sinking more money into it to fix it up. So we’ll see how long it takes to get me back on the road with my own wheels. For now it looks like NPC and I will be sharing his car.

Wednesday we got new cell phones. I hated, hated, hated my Blackberry. I don’t know what it was in particular (error messages when trying to surf the web, freezing up, taking two hours to turn on) that I hated about that thing but I’m glad it’s gone. We also switched from Sprint to Verizon so we’ll see how that works out. The new phone is a Droid – the LG Vortex. It’s a pretty plum color and it’s a lot of fun to mess around with but it’s taking me some time to figure out all of the ins-and-outs this thing has. All the same I’m glad to be rid of the BB.

NPC also finally got his Xbox which he’s wanted since last Christmas but we didn’t have the extra $ to get. He’s trying to teach me how to play Modern Warfare  but I’m completely clueless. It’s NOT easy, trust me. I’m glad he’s finally got his toy to play with when he’s off work.

What else? I have my first interview this weekend! I will be going to the Dilworth Coffee House and meeting with Rob Jones who is a local, very talented musician. He’s playing at 6:30 so if you’re in the area stop by and show some support for this local talent!

Hopefully the camera will be here today *cross fingers* and I’ll have it to bring with me but if not this phone’s got a pretty amazingly clear camera. This weekend’s plan is to relax as much as possible but if that camera comes in I’ll be out taking pictures no doubt. In which case you’ll have some fun stuff to look at!

Anyways I’m off for now and headed to work. I’ll be posting my first Mood Music post tonight so be on the lookout for that.

Until later – have a great day!
